He blink microscope, also called "stereo comparator", is an instrument with which photographic films of the sky are examined.
By resting the eye on the eyepiece, two films, taken at different times, from the same celestial region are seen in rapid succession. If one of the two were present a new object, it would be seen as an intermittent point.
Something similar happens also if, instead of a completely new object, there is a variation in brightness or position of a star.
This instrument was used to detect double stars, comets, variable stars, asteroids and the movement of the stars. Currently, computer programs are used that perform the same work more quickly and with greater precision.
