In the last years of the 50s, in order to coordinate the space programs and the activity of the various research centers dedicated to the exploration of space, both national and international organizations emerged which, in a generic way, were give the name of space agencies.
The most famous is NASA, initials of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, founded in the United States on October 1, 1958. European countries have partnered in an international organization, ESA, initials of the European Space Agency. Russia has the SRI, initials of the Russian Space Institute.
Also countries that constitute medium and small powers have created agencies on the NASA model. France has the CNES, initials of the Center National d'Etudes Spatiales; Japan, the NASDA; India, the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization).
