The Skylab was an orbital laboratory launched by a Saturn V rocket in May 1973. The Skylab was visited three times by NASA astronauts on some occasions for two and a half weeks.

A multitude of scientific experiments were performed on the Skylab, including observations in the ultraviolet and X-ray range. These observations provided information about Comet Kohoutek, our Sun and about the mysterious X-ray background radiation - radiation that arrives in all directions of space.

The Skylab rushed the Earth on July 11, 1979.
