In the picture we see cave paintings in the caves of Altamira (Cantabria). Homo sapiens appeared and evolved during the Pleistocene. With him, creativity and art were born. This is one of the characteristics of the human species.

The genus homo appeared on Earth 2 million years ago. It evolved in different species such as homo habilis, homo erectus and neanderthalensis. But none of them is still considered human. The human species was born with the appearance of the first homo sapiens in Africa, 200,000 years ago.

The appearance and brain of the archaic homo sapiens were already very similar to ours. But he still did not know the language or perform artistic manifestations.

The change occurred when the Earth entered an ice age called marine isotopic stage 6. The hardness of the climate was about to cause the extinction of homo sapiens. Only about 1,000 survived, refugees in caves on the South African coast and feeding on shellfish and tubers. This fact is known as the population or evolutionary bottleneck. The most important remains are found at the Pinnacle Point sites in South Africa.

The surviving homo sapiens took the evolutionary leap. They became creative, discovered art, language and learned to master their surroundings. 50,000 years ago, they left Africa and populated the entire planet. Genetics has shown that we all descend from that small group.
